Animal Planet Expo Comes to Farmington

My family and I love The Nature Channel's Animal Planet. We watch it almost every night. My son's favorite show is Animal Planet's Most Extreme. So, when we heard about the expo being held at the Farmington Polo Grounds, it was a must see for us. Hartford is one of a dozen stops for the Animal Planet Expo. Other stops include Boston, Chester County PA., Prince George County MD., Raleigh NC., Tampa FL., Baton Rouge LA., Houston TX., Twin Cities MN., Denver CO., The Bay Area CA., and Seattle WA.

The Expo's main theme was to promote the organization R.O.A.R. (Reach Out, Act, Respond). Animal Planet has teamed up with a number of animal organizations including, American Humane Association, ASPCA, American Veterinary Medical Association, World Wildlife Fund and others, to form R.O.A.R. The organizations mission is to raise awareness for different animal issues, both wild and domestic and to encourage volunteers to get involved and act by making a R.O.A.R Promise. Members can promise to donate money, volunteer time, foster care or adopt unwanted animals, fund raise or raise awareness for different animal causes. These causes include endangered species and habitats, local conservation, pet health care and well being, shelter adoption, spay and neutering, and others.

The Hartford Animal Planet Expo was co-sponsored by Comcast, ConnectiCare, Hoffman Auto Group and Basement Finishing Systems.  The event was great. There were a ton of things for kids of all ages to do. Face Painting, Jump House, Spider Web Tower Climb, Caterpillar Tunnel, Alligator Slide, Endurance Experience and more. There were educational displays such as the bug house and live animal shows, including a great Frisbee dog catching show! Plenty of food vendors, a misting tent, climbing wall, and various games for the kids complete the scene. All in all, a great event. Best of all it was free. Thank you to all of those involved for a great day! Click here for photos from the Hartford event. Photos from other event locations are available here.
